We HIGHLY RECOMMEND upgrading to our heavy-duty Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank. Spend the extra dough and spare yourself all the plastic tank grief!
So you're ready to roll the dice on a plastic tank? Read on!
This is an inexpensive aftermarket plastic expansion tank for your late-model 1986-91 Vanagon. Includes cap.
Over the years we have stocked and sold several brands of expansion tanks, and many of them were revealed to have poor build quality resulting in a short service life. We have tried every aftermarket brand we could get our hands on. No matter how hard we tried, we just couldn't find a consistently good brand. Even the best brands were eventually proven to be a mixed bag of heavy-duty, well-constructed units and poorly manufactured units. Unable to find any reliably high-quality brands, we have no choice to offer what is available, and let the chips fall where they may. This expansion tank has NO WARRANTY of any kind. In fact, the price is so inexpensive that we recommend purchasing a spare (just in case).
Coolant level fill line: Disregard all MAX FILL markings on any plastic expansion tank you receive. Fill the tank all the way to the top, and monitor your correct coolant level at the Coolant Overflow Reservoir.
Don't forget a new coolant level sensor! Choose the inexpensive OEM sensor, or upgrade to our bomber all-metal Coolant Level Sensor Conversion Kit!
