Two of these float valves are found in all Vanagon fuel recirculation/evaporation systems. On 2WD vehicles, they press into the evaporation tanks up in the wheel wells; on 4WD Syncros, they press directly into the tank itself. The design of this part is actually quite robust, and they rarely ever fail, but they do become brittle over time and occasionally the nipple will break off during fuel system servicing.
