If you are tired of flimsy factory bumpers that dent in a heavy rain—or plastic end caps that shatter with the slightest bump—your day just got a whole lot better. We are very proud to introduce our own GoWesty designed, hand-built plate steel bumper set. These could very well be the last bumpers you will ever buy for your van. With their 12-gauge plate steel and ultra-rigid boxed design, these bumpers are extremely tough while remaining lightweight. We developed this bumper set to have minimal overhang in any direction to optimize ground clearance and reduce approach and departure angles. These features are especially important for off-highway environments. So if you have been looking for extra impact protection, or a new tough look for your Vanagon, our bullet proof bumpers are just the ticket.

Please note that we offer a version of the rear bumper for single- and double-cab Vanagons (often referred to as a "Sika" and "Doka," respectively). If you own a single- or double-cab Vanagon, please choose the "Doka" option in the drop-down menu. This version does NOT have a license plate door cut-out and is not for regular passenger or Westy Vanagons.

*Need a front or rear hitch, too? We offer a bolt-on front hitch, and our rear bumper comes pre-drilled to accept our bolt in 2" receiver hitch, which can be added as a drop-down option on this page, or purchased separately below.. Both are strong enough to be used for gear trays, bike racks, to tow anything your Vanagon can handle (rear only), and can even be used as a solid anchor point for getting yourself pulled out of the mud!

Installation note for 1988-1991 Vanagon with fiberglass "big" bumpers:

Installation of the front bumper requires the removal of several thin sheet metal riser tabs with a hacksaw or Sawzall. The rear bumper includes its own built in "arms" that take the place of the factory bumper mounts. Removing fiberglass bumpers will expose factory mounting holes in the body.
