Day after day, Vanagon campers roll through our shop with their aluminum curtain tracks hanging down. What's the deal? Well, those tiny little screws that hold the track up tend to vibrate loose and fall out. Replacing them doesn't seem like a big deal, but finding a screw of that size is pretty tricky. After much searching, we located a screw that is very close to the original and works great... as long as you follow these two very important conditions. See below.
Installation tips:
1) The heads on these screws barely fit through the opening in the track itself. You will need a tiny little screwdriver and a steady hand to weasel them into place.
2) Sometimes the old screws holes are stripped out and are too big, so the new screws have nothing to grab onto. If this is the case, put some wood glue on the end of a wooden toothpick and break off the toothpick in the hole. Once the glue sets up a bit, the hole is ready for a new screw.
Fit note: These screws
WILL NOT work with our
aftermarket curtain gliders. The head of the screw is just a little too proud to clear the top of the glider as it passes by. So, if you are also in need of curtain gliders, make sure you choose the OEM German ones.
