The original long plastic coolant pipes that have been dutifully carrying coolant to and from the engine and radiator will eventually fail in a spectacular way. When they do, you risk engine meltdown and at a minimum will make a new friend with a local tow truck driver. If you are doing any cooling system work, or simply want to upgrade a known weak point, install a set of these quality stainless pipes, and forget about this portion of your cooling system forever. Installation of these pipes is made much easier due to their two-piece design and center coupling boot.
Very important note: Before you order, measure the outside diameter of your existing steel or plastic pipes. Earlier vans were delivered with 1.25" diameter steel pipes, while most 1985 vans had larger 1.5" diameter plastic pipes. Measure what you've got, then make your selection in the drop-down menu above! HOWEVER: 1.25” PIPES ARE NOT RECOMMENDED! This is because the 1.25” hoses that are required for the 1.25” pipes are **NOT** available any longer. There are shims available to fit a 1.5” hose onto a 1.25” pipe, but the connection is not reliable! If your hoses are 1.25” and old, we strongly recommend replacing them with 1.5” hoses front and rear, and buy the 1.5” pipes. Do it once, cry once!
Fits: All 1982-85 Watercooled Vanagon with the 1900cc cooling system.
