With the number of potential modifications these vans have undergone over the years, the only reliable way to determine if you have the -438A or -438B coolant hose junction is to actually look at your van and see what is currently installed. To do this, remove the air filter housing from the engine bay and look at the hose that connects the right side of the engine to the firewall and this junction. There is a double-scalloped cut-out where the hose goes through the firewall, and you need to note which scallop the hose is connected to.

Manual Transmission:
• ALL manual transmissions require the -438B junction. However, if the hose on your vehicle enters the left-side scallop (directly beneath the screws that hold the connector in place), then you also need to replace the hose you are looking at with a -130B hose, as the 251-121-438 junction you have, without the extra nipple for the auto trans cooler, is no longer in production.

Automatic Transmission:
• If it enters the left-side scallop (directly beneath the screws that hold the connector in place), then you need a -438A junction.
• If it enters the right-side scallop, you need the -438B junction.
