Along comes Steve. He did not have to wait! He used to have an 89 Syncro Westy. He sold it, and bought a 2003 Eurovan full camper. Well, he has come full circle, and wants a Syncro again!

Just back a couple of days ago from our run into the Eastern Sierra's. The weather was mostly kind as snow fell only intermittently at the higher elevations but the heater toasted the van to perfection in those late nights.

The van ran awesome for the thousand mile, 5 day journey from LA, into the mountains and then out to the warmth of death valley before heading home. I enclosed a few images that if they seem worthy of your use, then please...

As I said, the van ran great, the new propane sitch is nice and will take a little getting use to going from the ease of the old system to something different but it's not far from perfection. BTW, again, I appreciated you and your drivers making all the efforts made to deliver the van so that I could make this trip happen.

I am writing you and your staff to say thank you.

A few months ago I drove up to see Go Westy's inventory, more out of curiosity really. I mean, I was driving a very clean 2003 Eurovan but I never quite felt right in it, I had only 24,000 original miles, a van that for me did not inspire travel, well not like the VW's of my past.

It wasn't until I read an article in your "library section" titled, "Model Choice: Are You a Vanagon or Eurovan Person?" did I understand something about myself. Up until this point I had never asked myself this question, it just never occurred to me but by the time I had reached the end of the article the age old question I had been asking myself for many years, "Who Am I?" was now answered in the pages of your website, "I'm a Vanagon guy!" The relief I felt that night was profound.

You met me one Saturday morning in late November we talked, you showed me a couple Vanagon's you had on the lot and before long I had put a deposit on an 1989 two-wheel drive Westy and I was on my way to building an amazing Westfalia. This was not to be my first Syncro, I actually owned one in 1989 and I loved that car and fell into deep sellers remorse for months after I sold it. I sold it mostly because of the underpowered engine of that day. You told me thenthat this one ought to be done by mid February. You certainly know your business.

Then there was the matter of my 2003. I knew that it wouldn't be too difficult to sell but I never imagined you'd be the guy that actually procured the buyer, not to mention the driver to take it from LA to Los Osos. That whole exchange was so smooth and easy. Again, thank you for that.

Over the next few months I would get these exciting emails from you with photos of the vans progress, of course these were immediately forwarded to a handful of friends that were also lookingat the engine and the undercarriage of the van as it went through a sex change of sorts, well at least from boyhood to manhood. You were patient and I never felt that my questions of curiosity were disregarded or insignificant to you.

As time drew closer to the end of January things had progressed along. I began to hope that it would be done ahead of schedule, yet, I also had come to know something else about you over those months, this van would not leave your shop until it was right.

On February 14th, Valentines Day, I picked up the nicest Valentines Day gift of my 52 years. Lucas, it's beautiful! I took my time going home and I have driven it every day since. It's so great to know who you are in life, to know that I am a Vanagon guy and not a Eurovan guy. This is my 5th VW van and I am planning on it being my last. Thanks for everything. As I said early on in an email, "you do it right", you know the value of a happy customer who has been delivered a product that exceeds expectation.

I was on my way home this evening in very bitchen van that gets
envious looks and thumbs up from other appreciators on the road.
Anyway, I digress, I was checking out the awesome high beam of light
put off by the South African headlight, wow, nice lights, when I got
to appreciate another great feature of this van, the brakes. Out of no
where two small dogs enjoying liberation from some nearby home ran out
of nowhere in front the van. I was able to stop and see them through
the entire moment and it was close. So, grateful tonight that I don't
have to try and find my way to sleep with a couple of road kills to
deal with, thanks a ton, man.

Happy New Year...

I just got in the other night, not sure if I was going to make it back in my desired time frame, but did in the end. Enclosed are a couple of possible calendar entries…

The trip was fun, got a bit of off road time, stuck it in the sand once but within 30 minutes I had it popped right out again. For the most part it ran well.

I continue to have problems (an occasional) bucking however much less so than in the past. The sink pump died, again, within the first week. And toward the last week I wasn't sure that the (starter would crank) each time I turned it off. Pretty nerve racking when you're out in the middle of nowhere and you forget that you're having (starter) problems and ya turn it off. The longest it wouldn't start, 1/2 a day. (maybe swimming the vehicle killed the starter?)

So this concludes this email, I do have another which will soon follow.
