Karen and George drove this little Westy here all the way from Minnesota. When they first contacted me, it was a pretty typical conversation. It started with their assertion that their Westy, "..was purchased from the original owner with only 70k miles, was never used in the winter, stored in a heated garage, was in great shape, not rusty at all" yada ,yada, yada. I was, of course, not impressed or swayed. It seems that everyone that calls me from the mid west or north east has the same, incredulous story about their Westy. I mean, the folks in that part of the country typically don't even have a clue as to what a super clean, really rust free vehicle is. In general, if you can't see the ground through the floorboard, it is considered "rust free".

Anyway, I said something like, "OK, if it as clean as you say, we will pay you $5K for it when you arrive" thinking I would never hear from them a gain.

Well low and behold, guess who walks into my office on a Wednesday? It turns out Karen and George are getting on in years, and figured they would take one last epic trip in their beloved Westy, and that they did: 3,000 miles worth, including a nice stay in Yellowstone. Man, I'm jealous.

And BOY was I pleasantly surprised that their Westy was indeed everything they said it was. Not a spot of rust anywhere, no cracks on the brown dash board (very rare), and even the texture on the steering wheel is not warn smooth like on some higher mileage Vanagons.

But let's face it: It is all original, and READY! The heads are leaking, the transaxle is original and just waiting for an inconvenient place to do it's sudden death number, all original mechanicals throughout. They brought along a nice stack of service records, but that is pretty much all they are; basic service like oil and filter, minor tune ups--stuff like that. Even the brakes appear original! Boy, you can sure get quite a life out of one of these Westy's when the right person is behind the wheel....
