This MV has been coming to GoWesty since about 2002, three owners ago. We did a lot of maintenance for the first owner, Nate. When the engine bellied up in January of 2005, he decided he had to part with it. We bought it from Nate for $5000, installed a fresh GoWesty 2.3 liter engine, went through all the systems and sold it to Roger $16,586.07 in 2005 with 233,213 miles on it. For details of that sale, please click here. Roger was forced to sell it back to us December of 2006 due to some financial problems. We purchased back for $12,500, marked it up 20%, and sold it to Jorge, from St. Paul, MN.
Jorge had us do something with it I have always wanted to do for myself: Building the first ever Syncro MV! That's right, we put this puppy up in the air and stripped the undercarriage clean of all 2WD engine, automatic transaxle, suspension, steering, cooling, fuel, and electrical systems. Then we took a good, solid but worn out and beat up 87 Syncro passenger van, stripped it of the same, rebuilt everything, and stuffed it all under the MV using the existing, low mileage GoWesty 2.3 liter engine. Total out the door price will come to around $58,990.84. But hey, where else are you going to buy a "new" 1991 VW Vanagon MV SYNCRO?
The total out the door price came to $58,990.84 Here is what he got:
Fresh GoWesty rebuilt Syncro transaxle
-with much taller 3rd and 4th gears
-48/48 warranty

It was a pleasure building this way cool Vanagon for you, Jorge. Enjoy!
Well, we put this Syncro on a truck and shipped it off to Jorge. Three months went by, and we heard noth'n. Finally I wrote him an email asking what was up? "Do you like your Syncro, or what?". He replied, "Still waiting, hoping to get it by winter time...". So I wrote back:

Hey, I owed you! Gotcha!
I've been waiting all this time to pull this one on you!
.....
and now that I got that one, let me tell you...
THIS VAN ROCKS!
details to come, I've already put 1200 miles on it. Lots of stories and a few questions, but I'll give you the full report in a few. I'm behind at work as I've spent so much time out on the road in the van.
Full road report to follow, (and actually sorry for the delay, I really am very happy with the van and want you to know how much I appreciate your work)...
all for now,
more soon
cheers
Jorge
