Ed has been a customer of GoWesty since about 2004. Over the years, we chipped away at it—back when we did that sort of thing. Then in 2011, we decided we were no longer going to do "partial restorations" or "standard service" work any more. Ed had already spent about $23,000 over the years on his Westy, and it was only about half done. So naturally he was feeling quite bummed that we would not agree to continue to chip a way at it...
So, we made a deal with him in late 2012 to allow him to bring his Westy back, but only if he would let us FINISH it, all at one time. The cost to do just that was another $28,000 or so—but he was DONE!
The exterior had all been done elsewhere to Ed's liking, and the inside was all very nice and the way he likes it, too. We had already installed a fresh GoWesty 5-speed transaxle, with taller 4.57:1 final drive ratio, a few year back, as well. So, we just had to concentrate on getting the remaining mechanical end of things all dialed in.
Here is an overview of what GoWesty did:
• Suspension and steering completely overhauled
• Fresh GoWesty 2.5 liter engine
• New exhaust system
• All new cooling system
• Full page of reliability items totaling over $3300
• GoWesty super duper, ultra major service: all maintenance back to zero miles
• All new fuel delivery system, fuel tank re-sealed, ALL new fuel hoses
• GoWesty 16" tire and wheel package, which made room for:
• GoWesty Big Brakes up front
And a whole bunch more....
Even though Ed had been coming to GoWesty for almost 10 years, he was still a bit skeptical that he would really appreciate the changes we had recommended, and the improvement in performance that we were touting. But after his first trip, all of his worries were put to rest. He writes:

Subject: After 14,000 miles now at home without ANY problems
Hi Lucas,
Just wanted to let you know we made the 14,000 mile/4 month trip to Alaska/Yukon without one single problem, thanks to the outstanding work of your GoWesty Team! My GoWesty 2.5 engine performed like a dream and I owe you our heart-felt appreciation for insisting on this choice of an engine.
To my surprise, the fuel consumption with this larger and much more powerful engine was much better than I would have dreamed. It was between 20-22 MPG on the highway, FULLY LOADED, traveling between 55-65 mph. With the 2.1l engine, over the 150,000 miles I put on it, I got 18-20 (at best) MPG similarly loaded. With a lighter load it would have been even better. We averaged about 17 mpg in the city—about the same as the original engine. With the A/C on, I seem to get about 1 mpg less. We are very pleased.
Lucas, I can not thank you and your team enough for the fabulous job you did to convert our Westy into a "rocket!" What an incredible improvement (just like you said!). Brakes, suspension upgrades make a noticeable difference. Great job all around!
I am singing your praises to anyone who may be interested.
Thank you,
Ed.
